Manuscript Formatting and Editing
Prepare your manuscript for the reader it deserves.
Editing and formatting are often mentioned together, but they are different kinds of work. Editing concerns the words: proofreading, copyediting, and — where specifically agreed — developmental feedback. Formatting concerns structure and layout: how the manuscript is organised and presented for its intended reading format.
Depending on the agreed scope, work may include chapter headings, paragraph styles, front and back matter, table of contents, print interior layout, ebook formatting, consistency checks, and platform-specific file preparation.
The service
What it is
Editing at the depth you choose, and/or formatting for print and ebook, with deliverables and revisions specified in the project agreement.
Developmental editing — feedback on structure, plot, pacing, or argument — is a different service from proofreading, and is only included where specifically agreed.
Why it matters
Inconsistent styles, errors, or awkward layouts can distract readers and undermine confidence. Proper file preparation also prevents problems during upload to publishing platforms.
