About Us

We help authors see their books the way readers first encounter them.

Atelier is a team-based publishing and book-discoverability consultancy, led by Sam Atelier as Director. We help authors assess and improve the way their books are presented and discovered — and then provide the publishing and digital services that address what we find.

Who We Are

An atelier, in the truest sense: a workshop for careful, collaborative work.

We chose the name Atelier deliberately. An atelier is a studio where skilled people work together on something that deserves attention to detail. That is how we think about every book we're invited to examine: not as a product to be pushed, but as a piece of work whose presentation can be understood, refined, and improved.

Our team brings together people working across discoverability reviews, publishing presentation, author profiles, digital content, and author services. Not every team member works on every area, but together we can look at a book from several angles and offer a coherent view.

What We Do

From assessment to action

Our work covers book discoverability reviews, platform positioning, author-profile optimisation, metadata and keyword guidance, professional manuscript preparation, social content, book video creation, and author website design.

Some authors come to us for a single, specific task — formatting a manuscript, say, or building a website. Others come because something feels wrong and they'd like help understanding what. Either way, we aim to connect each piece of work to the author's actual needs.

Why We Started Atelier

Because “spend more on promotion” isn't always the right first answer.

Authors are often encouraged to spend more on promotion without first knowing whether the book's description, positioning, available credibility signals, platform presentation, or search terms are working effectively. Promotion can bring people to a book — but it can't make an unclear listing clear.

We prefer to examine the available evidence, identify potential friction points, prioritise practical improvements, and recommend services relevant to the author's actual needs. Atelier exists to make that kind of thoughtful first step available to authors.

Our Two Years of Experience

Two years of looking closely at how books are presented.

Our team has two years of experience in this work. Over that time, we have refined how we review listings, author profiles, and metadata; how we separate what can be observed publicly from what requires private data; and how we communicate findings in a way authors can actually use.

We describe our experience plainly because we believe that's what authors deserve. We don't claim awards or headline results — we offer a careful method and an honest account of what it can and can't tell you.

Mission & Vision

Our Mission

To help authors understand how their books are presented, discovered, positioned, and evaluated by prospective readers — and to provide appropriate publishing and digital services that address their real needs.

Our Vision

A publishing landscape where authors make decisions about promotion and presentation from a position of understanding, rather than guesswork — and where good books have a fair opportunity to reach the readers they were written for.

Our Values

What guides our work

  • Honesty

We tell authors what we observe, including what we can't determine. We don't promise outcomes no one can control.

  • Clarity

Our findings are written to be understood and acted upon, not to impress with jargon.

  • Thoughtful assessment

We look before we recommend, and we consider how different issues relate to one another.

  • Professional presentation

We believe books deserve to be presented with the same care that went into writing them.

  • Author respect

Your book, your voice, your decisions. We advise; you choose.

  • Practical recommendations

Every suggestion should be something you can reasonably act on, prioritised by likely importance.

Our Five-Dimension Discoverability Approach

Five lenses, assessed together

  • Discoverability

Can the intended readers find the book through relevant searches, categories, platforms, or browsing paths?

  • Visibility

When readers explore relevant spaces, does the book have a reasonable opportunity to be noticed and stand out?

  • Credibility

Does the presentation give readers accurate, consistent information that supports confidence?

  • Adaptability

Is the book's positioning suitable for the audiences and platforms it seeks to reach, without misrepresenting its contents?

  • Keywordability

Do the title, description, metadata, and relevant search phrases align with how potential readers look for books like this?

How We Work With Authors

A respectful, scoped, collaborative process

  1. 01

    Listen

You tell us about your book, your readers, and what you'd like to understand.

  2. 02

    Scope

We agree exactly what will be reviewed or produced before any work begins.

  3. 03

    Work

We carry out the agreed work, noting observations and limitations honestly.

  4. 04

    Deliver

You receive clear findings or finished assets, with recommended next steps.

We never ask for platform passwords, never fabricate reviews or credentials, and never use bots or deceptive engagement.
